What is the story behind safety pinning money on the shirt of someone having a birthday? ?

You know how in High School when someone has a birthday everyone safety pins 1 dollar bills onto their shirts? Well, my best friend’s birthday is Friday, and she’s a history buff. I want to give her a dollar to start the chain, and an explanation to why that started.

Where do you live?
I’ve heard of this in Mexican culture, but not so much in America.
Also I’ve mostly seen this for Weddings, not for birthdays.
Look up “Dollar Dance” or “Money Dance” on Wikipedia.

I thought only black folks did that! (I’m black, by the way, so I’m speaking from my own experience of only seeing my people do this.) I actually have no idea why this started, but I’d like to know, so I’m giving you a star!

yeh people do that in our school. (you mean where you give that person a dollar and pin it to their shirt right?) well my assumption is just that everyone likes money and its kind of like bragging like, haha this many people like me! lol its silly but it makes everyone smile, and everyone can afford it. haha
