What is a good way for a character to make quick money in a story?
Original Character asked:
My character works as an adviser to the Prime Minister of a country, so that places limits on what she can do. I was thinking that she could have used some of her own money (she had enough to be considered upper-middle class) to finance some sort of project that went on to make a great deal of money, but I wasn’t sure what it could be. Any ideas?

i like drama so mine might not be too usable: shes a secret drug lord, invested in some big building, had a rich relative that just died, killed her husband for his money… you can do anything

i read a book where a high-placed official used his position to make money be telling government secrets but that’s underhanded so if she’s the good guy that wouldn’t work.
she could start a small corner store type thing that really takes off or write a book that gets published and makes millions.

Maybe she invested in an internet company that ended up getting as huge as Google or Yahoo?
It might make it even more interesting if it was kind of accidental. Like if she invested just a small sum in a family member’s crazy idea for an internet company, solely out of a sense of family obligation or to get the person off her back, and their company was sold to some huge conglomerate for tons of money.
